Dave’s sculpture is representative of Baltimore’s physical infrastructure and speaks to the culture of labor struggle. The decline of industry and the consequences of larger socioeconomic trends resulting from this deindustrialization are realized through the choice of materials.
Most often used in his work are tools and equipment salvaged from industrial, agricultural and medical trades from the 19th - early 20th century. These tools are reinvented into new forms that simultaneously evoke a harsh reality and beautiful timelessness.
